The PS suggestion is likely on the money.\012You have a couple of choices-\012- Buy a new board from RCA\012- Buy a used or repaired board; one source is:\012 Jimmy's Parts (~40-60% of new)\012Finally, the failure is often only electrolytic capacitors that were bought from the lowest bidder.\012There are probably 1-2 dozen parts which will cost (if buying according to my guidance) under $20 US.\012There will be a couple of larger parts rated at ~ 200 VDC and 200-400 uFd and these seldom fail since they see only low frequencies. If those have bulging tops or some deposits surrounding them, they too have failed.\012Many of the rest of the capacitors are exposed to high frequencies which chemical (electrolytic) capacitors really hate and must be far better constructed than the previously mentioned two larger ones. \012
\012If you choose to DIY, you will need a better soldering iron or risk damaging the board. You can buy these direct from China or locally and add 20-50% to the prices at the site below;\012
\012DealExtreme (irons/stations)\012
\012I wouldn't buy the cheapest; your board may not be irreplaceable but don't waste your time and money.\012
\012You will also need something to remove the solder from the parts' leads or again, risk damaging the board. There is solder 'wick' which works well with some practice, and solder vacuums here:\012
\012DealExtreme (solder removal) \012
\012If you have never done any board repair, dig out that ? that you just couldn't throw away although it is sick or you haven't used it for three years, disassemble it and practice on those parts and boards.\012
\012I suggest instead of spending a couple hundred dollars on a capacitance meter with other functions you don't understand, you just might 'shotgun' the board and replace all except those mentioned two.\012
\012I recommend Mouser.com and have used them for business and private stuff for several decades.\012Their prices are fair, shipping at cost, no handling charges.\012
\012When looking for your parts, you will find a selection of different prices and don't pick the lowest; look for:\012
\012- Low ESR\012- For switched mode service (or 'higher frequencies')\012
\012The parts that have likely failed WEREN'T rated that way and have died because of it.\012A new supply from RCA will have the same garbage parts as the sick one and will fail in ~ the same number of hours.\012
\012There are ways to prevent even cheap parts from failing but still add to cost so I am the only one on earth who does this unless the device is 'hi-rel' and cost 50 times what it should since the taxpayer is stuck with the extra cost.
Good day,
A common problem for these is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your Tv and look at the power supply on the left hand side.
You will see roughly around 9 x capacitors that are bulged / domed shaped on top usually these are valued at 3300uf 10V any that have bulged or leaked a brown like substance should be changed.
This will cure the problem as they overheat being sat next to a heatsink that gets very hot!
Try and change them for the same 3300uf but a higher voltage.
Hope this help in solving the problem of the television and do take caution in opening the back cover of the television, because it contains high voltages...

I can turn it on and off using my remote. I read other problems where people had to unplug there tv to turn it off. Mine will turn off. Would the problem be the power supply or the motherboard. The slave inverter was making a squeeling noise and i replaced it like 2 months ago.

Hi. I have an LG 47LB9DF-UA LCD TV with a video problem. Originally, I had problem with horizontal lines, accompanied with a lag. I opened the tv and found two connectors from the power supply board to the main board loose. After removing then reconnecting them several times, the problem cleared up. I l

When I first started noticing problems I would turn the TV on and I would hear the power-up sound, the backlight would come on and then the red LED would flash a few times then the backlight would go off and it would repeat (power-up sound---backlight on---LED flash---backlight off). I have a Samsung HLP 4674w DLP. The picture started to lose color and look like a negative image. Then it would get scrambled and eventually go out. Powering on and off sometimes fixed it, but only temporarily. Sometimes it would also turn off and on by itself. I thought it may be the lamp so I replaced it, but it did not fix the problem. Next I thought it may be the color wheel so I replaced that, but the problem did not go away. Also when this happens the Power switch will not turn the TV off.
