Having problems with your Flat Panel Televisions ?

I have a LG 37LC2D that from past 2-3 days started behaving crazy.. It seems to respond very slowly to the remote and blank screen after the green light blinks for at least 15 times... Sometimes when I keep it turned on.. after sometime the picture and sound appear and when it appears its not a problem at all... Also, sometimes, after a few seconds, it flickers and then goes back blank... This would sometime occur only after an hour of two of watching... I read your forum and see that people

Yes that creamy liquid is called electrolyte. Capacitors with leaky electrolyte take longer to reach a proper charge/dsicharge cycle. they also tend to over heat after a while which is why it will shut off. As for calling a tech he will probably charge you a hefty amount of money( about 150$) . Best thing to do would be to purchase a new power supply module which would costs about 75$ if its available on shopjimmy. I will find it for you if you can get me the part number off the board
Hi arun_nallan,\015\012
\015\012This kind of symptoms was definitely caused by faulty electrolytic capacitor in the power supply section like what you have read in the forum. Leaky/dried capacitor in this board will dropped the voltage and will disable the unit. In the first stage of symptoms little warm-up will make itself stable and will work fine but it will get worst, time will come, the unit will not power-up at all. Intermittent fault after powering fine from warm-up was also caused by this faulty capacitor. In the longer period of operation, it will make itself unstable which will trigger another symptoms depend upon the board feed to it.\015\012
\015\012Leaky electrolytic capacitor has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top and can be easily identify. See sample picture of leaky capacitor with dome at the top.\015\012
\015\012jdvillanueva_37.jpg\015\012
\015\012Dried capacitor has no physical indication of fault. You must have a capacitor checker to determine its condition.\015\012
\015\012The capacitor you are referring to, is not a electrolytic capacitor but the ceramic one and the creamy thing you've saw is not coming from this capacitor(that is a glue to make the cap stable from the board). This capacitor is not the caused of the symptoms(this is a surge/spike suppressor capacitor in the AC line).\015\012
\015\012If you're not handy with electronics and don't have necessary tools and test instruments, I would advice you to look for a qualified technician to isolate the faulty electrolytic capacitor in the power supply board.\015\012
\015\012Another option is, if you want to fix it yourself, I would advice you to replace the entire power supply board. Please click this LINK for the replacement or obtain the board from your local LG service centers. This will not require any soldering and much convenient for you(save $200-$300 for service fee of a technician).\015\012
\015\012Hope I helped you.\015\012
\015\012Have a nice day!\015\012
